Ok so today’s the start of the TikTok made me read it part of my blog, I am too easily influenced so let’s just dive right in. Neon Gods is a retelling of Hades and Persephone, already I was interested in that, and then there was the spice level everyone kept putting it at and by then I HAD to know.
Long story short I read the book, not only did I read the book, I finished it in two days. With that being said I liked the book. I really did. I thought it was a well-told rewrite with a modern twist that made it feel new and exciting. I enjoyed the dynamic and watching the two main charters come together. But it was weird in the sense that there was no true underworld it was just a city separated by the river and no one on one side knew much of anything about the other unless you were one of the 13. And there was some confusion for me on how you became a ‘god’. I wish there was more plot and background on that and there just wasn’t it kinda fell flat for me in the aspect. I’m a plot-driven person and it fell short until almost the end of the book.
Moving on to the spice level of the book. I’ve seen people give it a five out of five and it just does not rank that high for me? I’m not sure, did I read the wrong book, or skip a chapter or something? I’m just gonna say for me it’s a 2 out of 5 in spice but everyone is different. For me, it was like a YA novel with a few explicit scenes and that’s just not what I thought I was getting from this book based on the reviews of others.
Overall I didn’t hate the book, It’s a 3.5 out of 5 and 2 out of 5 in spice. Do I recommend it? Eh, yes but you have to go in knowing what you will get out of the book because everyone is different.
