It’s no secret, I’m not the best cook in the world. In fact, I’m not even the best cook in the house! Brandon has far better kitchen skills than me on any given day. But, there are a few things I have mastered, side dishes and this lasagna.
It’s become a bit of a joke that no one knew I could cook, well I still can’t, but this one dish is a huge hit with friends and family. To the point that if I send out a text saying it’s lasagna night we will most definitely being having guests over for dinner. And that’s perfect to me, I love hosting people for dinner, and there is always more than enough to spare.
Brandon jokes I treat it like school, I studied different recipes and then made my own, but its no secret. Here’s how I make it:
Ingredients
1 lb of ground beef
1 pack of Neese southern sausage
2 (8oz) cans of tomato sauce
1 (24oz) jar of spaghetti sauce
1 egg
1 jar of ricotta cheese
1 block of cream cheese
1 small jar of sour cream
Mozzarella cheese
Italian blended cheese
Lasagna noodles ( I use about 12)
Italian seasoning & Garlic ( I really just eye-ball both of these)
To Cook
Preheat oven to 375
Brown and drain both ground beef and sausage
Return meat to heat and add in the spaghetti sauce and both jars of tomato sauce, then add Italian seasoning and garlic.
Bring sauce to boil then let simmer, I normally let mine simmer for about 15-25 minutes.
Bring noddles to boil and drain
In one bowl mix the ricotta cheese, cream cheese, sour cream, and one egg. I add a little Italian seasoning here as well.
Now it’s time to layer. I start with the meat sauce on the bottom as a base, then layer 6 noodles. Next, I add about half of the cream mixture, more sauce, mozzarella cheese, the rest of the cream mixture, and then six more noodles. The rest of the meat sauce os then next and I top it off with the Italian blended cheese.
Bake covered with tinfoil for 25 mins and then uncovered for 30 mins
Set and let cool for 15 mins
Serve and enjoy!
We always serve with garlic bread and sometimes I’ll make a salad to go with it, but last night we tried these lava cakes and so yummy! Fair warning this isn’t a light meal by any means, but it is super yummy.
